From Lee Goldberg, the New York Times bestselling author of THE WALK, comes **all four** of his acclaimed JURY novels..collected into one mega-sized, pulse-pounding, thrill-ride that will leave you breathless

JUDGMENT * ADJOURNED * PAYBACK * GUILTY

The complete saga of Brett Macklin, a one-man judge, jury, and executioner, fighting a war on terror on the streets of Los Angeles in the mid-1980s. Over 160,000 words/550 pages of non-stop action, wildly erotic sex, and wicked humor.

"As stunning as the report of a .357 Magnum, a dynamic premiere effort [...] The Best New Paperback Series of the year!" West Coast Review of Books

The series, published in 1985, under the title ".357 Vigilante," was written by Ian Ludlow... a pseudonym for Lee Goldberg, who wrote the books while he was a UCLA student, under the supervision of his professor, novelist Lewis Perdue ("The DaVinci Legacy," "The Queensgate Reckoning," "Daughter of God," etc). Goldberg would later go on to write and/or produce such TV shows as "Monk," "Diagnosis Murder," "SeaQuest," and "The Glades" and write many more novels, including THE WALK, the best-selling "Monk" series of original mysteries, and the internationally bestselling Fox & O'Hare novels with Janet Evanovich.

CRITICAL ACCLAIM FOR LEE GOLDBERG

"A high-octane mystery that moves like a bullet-train!" New York Times Bestselling author Janet Evanovich

"Can books be better than television? You bet they can -- when Lee Goldberg's writing them," New York Times bestselling author Lee Child

"Leaves you guessing right up until the heart-stopping ending," New York Times bestselling author Lisa Gardner

"Lee Goldberg can plot and write with the best of them," Mystery Scene Magazine

"Entertaining and ruefully funny," Honolulu Star Bulletin

"THE WALK is a magnificent novel -- by turns hilarious, scary, sad, witty and ultimately wise on its judgments about the way so many of us live these days. And it's one hell of a page-turner, too," Author Ed Gorman, founder of Mystery Scene Magazine

"Harrowing and funny..." -Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine

"With books this good, who needs TV?" Chicago Sun Times

"You'd be hard-pressed to find another recent work that provides so many hip and humorous moments," Bookgasm

The Jury Series edition by Lee Goldberg Literature Fiction eBooks

I enjoyed this series more than Lee Goldberg's Charlie Willis books. The 4 books here are also listed separately. I was fortunate enough to grab all in one as a Free selection one day and have just gotten to finish all 4 of them back to back.

The entire series as a whole has a good story line, the concept is something that many of us have wanted to do (vigilante work) but haven't because our sense of law and justice prevent us from taking that leap.
The 1st book sets the scene for the series of how Macklin began his "Mr. Jury" escapades. When his father, a cop, is burned to death by a street gang. Macklin finds out who was behind it as well as how the gang got off. He took matters into his own hands.
2nd book- This is how Macklin continues as a vigilante even though he has avenged his father and made things right. No spoilers so you have to read to find out- This story line though is harder to digest. For me anyway... not the realism of it but the subject matter. Macklin is tracking down a ring of pedophiles preying on kids and again, some of the scenes are too graphic in nature. Between the consenting sex scenes throughout and the subject matter in this "episode" I almost couldn't read it. So be warned here- once a scene started, I skimmed it for pertinent info and went on to scene "next".
3rd book- Macklin continues his work and is now after a racist group called the White Wash... Someone is impersonating Macklin as Mr. Jury and targeting black people. This one uses racial slurs and still sexual description which I think unnecessary and again became hard to read... I know with all authors, they want realism in their writing but I can not get comfortable with racial words and it makes me wonder how much a person feels this way in real life if he is willing to write it. I certainly wouldn't be able to. I still like Goldberg's work from TV and this series as a whole is good... I just can't see someone writing about brutal rape, explicit sex, and racist subjects without having some semblance somewhere inside of themselves where this is comfortable... Again, another hard read for subject matter for me- yes, I finished it.
4th book- Macklin is being targeted by his last nemesis here. The leader of the white wash group- reason... no spoilers from last book, sry- Rather than go directly after Macklin, he targets everyone close to Macklin (that Macklin has left)- Mack has to stop this person before he sees everyone he cares about dead... Another good storyline if you can get past the "few" sex scenes in this one... I know it was hard for Goldberg to end this series like this and wish his 5th book to this had been published... I hope he will...
Still, 3 stars... subject matter and scenes in places that really weren't necessary to complete "the picture"- there are still errors in this collection of books despite editing- not normally an issue with me but in more than a few areas they became distracting and made you go back and read again in order to make sense...
I appreciated the Afterword at the end of the 4 books to have some insight into how he got these books out. I wish to read something about he got started in the very beginning... Even in his youth, Mr. Goldberg seemed to have a talent for writing. I wonder how much of these books are just him and how much, if any, is help from his professor. He certainly has proven himself among many and continues to do so. I hope I see a new series emerge that is similar to Monk again. I miss Monk. ;)

The Jury Series edition by Lee Goldberg Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

easy read, a real action packed page Turner !!!
Overall it kept your attention and threw in some twists! Good read and hard to put down! Recommend this book for those who enjoy suspense.
Lee Goldberg has come a long way as an author. This series is well written, but no very believable. Okay as pulp fiction gets, I guess.
Not up to Goldberg's standards. Overly dark and malevolent.
This series is difficult to rate, explain, or review. Reading these stories is like the old joke about Chinese food, no sooner do you finish a story than your ready for the next one. There are so many things wrong about the stories like the hero being hurt, sometime very badly, but the next page he is able to accomplish amazing feats despite the no longer mentioned injuries. Probably my biggest problem with the series, and this is a bit of a spoiler warning, is the way primary characters are so quickly eliminated.

If this series is so bad why give it 3stars? Well the good part about the stories is the pacing. There are few places to put a story down. The author doesn't give the readers a chance to consider the flaws in the stories because the action is non-stop.

The strangest part of my review is I wish there were more stories, books, novels whatever you choose to call this series, available. They are vaguely similar to "The Punisher", and if you suspend belief for little while, they are entertaining.
The first two books were great but the rest were so-so. I like Lee Goldberg's writing a lot and understand this is some of his earlier work. I enjoy the characters, but by the last two books, it was nothing but blood and guts coupled with steamy sex scenes--and apparently the editor gave up because "it's" as a pronoun was rampant. It was interesting to see how this excellent writer got started and I will continue to read his work.
