I highly recommend this series! I have loved this series since the beginning. But Please Note: While this book is a historical work of fiction, it does contains scenes of violence and sexual assault. The author did a good job of writing this series to be accurate in what really happened during the invasions of the Danes. It wasn't flowery, pretty, or romantic. It was time of fear, extreme violence, and domination. People died, fled for their lives, and a lot of the time women were sexually assaulted. This is history! If you can look beyond the scenes that are hard to read you will find that this book was one that was hard to put down.With that being said, the author did a great job of writing this book. The characters were developed well, and the plot took many twists and turns. There was a lot going on but it kept the book interesting. I first bought the series in e-book format and then I bought it in paperback. That is how awesome I think this series is!

Rich in history, intrigue, with a strong female. The Siri speaks through its characters and is wonderful to read I think I've read it over five times now.
I liked this book and can't wait for the next one. It is not a ordinary romance, in this first book at least the heroine doesn't really have a real love. I had a little bit of trouble liking the heroine because she seemed to always choose the most difficult way. But she is strong and also very young. There also isen't any "hero" in this part, at least I don't think so. Despite that I feel drawn to the characters and have to know what happens next... This book ends with a real cliffhanger.
